Overcoming challenges in managing post-treatment endodontic pain
The area of diagnosing pain following endodontic treatment is moving towards assessing risk and protective factors in an effort to better explain why certain patients experience more post-treatment pain than others. This changing perspective allows clinicians to thinking differently, and likely most importantly pre-emptively, about how to address post-treatment pain. A conceptual framework for how to plan pre-emptive analgesic strategies, along with examples about how dentists may implement such treatments in an effort to reduce the amount of post-treatment pain following endodontic care.
At conclusion, participants should be able to:
- Define pre-emptive analgesia
- Develop a treatment plan to pre-emptive reduce post-treatment pain
- Discuss the completing pros and cons of the various approaches to pre-emptively managing pain
